Q: What does a tour day look like?

A: We will usually meet for breaky around 7:00am to discuss the day’s ride. We will cover the route, riding conditions, hand signals and ideally be on the road by 8:30am. Once departing generally we will make a brief stop in about an hour for those of us that have to take a “break”. Enjoy some more riding for about 2 hours and then break for lunch. After lunch we will ride about an hour and take our afternoon “break”. We will ride about another 2 hours before stopping for the evening. Each day is slightly different; stops can be determined by the scenery or points of interest to stop at. Most stops are for a stretch, hydration, photo and then keep going.

Q: How many miles/kms will we cover in a tour day?

A: We like to keep our days to around 250 miles/400kms maximum. We find that with the elevated terrain, lots of fun corners, breaks for lunch, this is more than enough ground to cover in one day. Some riders may get fatigued by the end of a full day; we don’t want to wear you out and then be too exhausted to enjoy the full tour. We find that most of the day is on the bike, there isn’t a great deal of time waisted each day. This can also be adjusted on tour to suit the group that we are touring with.

Q: What types of places do we stay at?

A: We will only choose places to stay that are clean, comfortable, secure, quiet and bike friendly. We are very picky and will go out of our way to try and find accommodation places that are a little nicer than the basic accommodation. I'm sure you will will love what we choose.

Q: How do I get ready for a tour with TwoWheel?

A: While our typical riding day is about 250 miles, riding an average of 250 miles for multiple days at a time can be physically demanding. Staying in motels, eating in restaurants, staying up later than normal can also contribute to not getting a good nights rest.. We recommend that you get as much sleep as possible prior to and during the tour... Get into riding shape prior to the tour. Try riding as much as possible to become accustomed to a full day of riding. Lastly, mentally prepare yourself to have a good time. We try our best to make sure you have a great riding experience but sometimes other factors such as weather can affect that. Less than perfect weather can create challenges but can also create special memories that will last a lifetime.

Q: What should I bring on tour?

A: Look at the suggested packing list on our web site. I like to bring clothing that can be worn in layers in case it becomes colder than expected. Also, the best idea is to pack light, what you bring you have to be able to carry, and depending on the bike you choose, that could just be a backpack. We pack extremely light. Dri-rider jackets with the 3 layer are brilliant; you can zip the linings in out that are needed. It can be hot, then wet, then cool as we reach heights of up to 5000ft.

Q: Can I only hire a harley..?

At this stage we only offer the lastest model Harley Davidsons. The rental company has great options for every riding style and we will do our best to find you something you will enjoy riding.

Q: What types of places will we eat at?

A: We like to stop at places that are off the beaten track, have great food and are biker friendly. I can assure you that we will not be stopping at McDonalds.

Q: Can I have an alcoholic drink when while riding?

A: Sometime the place we stop for lunch will serve alcohol. One drink is allowed at this time; however, this is strictly enforced. If you drink additional alcoholic beverages during the day’s ride you will be asked to leave the tour and you will not be given a refund.  You can drink if you like after the day’s ride is finished, but all rider’s safety is our first priority – Alcohol is not included in the tour.

Q: I am a new rider and have limited group-riding experience. Will I be ok in the group..?

A: We will endeavour to make everyone as comfortable with group riding as possible. First, in our pre-ride discussion we will cover how we will ride as a group and group riding hand signals. We will follow established group riding practices and we will not ride above the abilities of any riders in the group. It is our objective to have a safe enjoyable ride so it is imperative that everyone in the group follow the group riding procedures and use group riding hand signals. Apart from some small 2 lane transport sections, bunched up group riding won’t be an issue, and the riding will cater for all level of riders to be able to travel together and enjoy themselves.

Q: How do you figure out where we will ride..?

A: The routes are created from hours of riding, reviewing maps and good old chatting and getting local knowledge. I look for the road less travelled but I also look for routes that are safe with good surfaces that are free from construction. I use the web to get updates on road construction so we can avoid the area if possible. I try to avoid interstate roads but sometimes that is the only choice (weather or other circumstances outside of my control) so we will use them as sparingly as possible. All the routes are ridden before they are finalized and may be changed if construction or road conditions make it necessary. We will also make route changes if we think we can enhance the riding experience, or to suit the riding skill of the riding group at the time.

Q: What if my bike breaks down?

A: We understand that everything mechanical can break, however, we use all current year model bikes from a reputable Hire company.  As per rental agreements, it’s the responsibility of the hire company to tow, fix or repair any issue that may arise in the unlikely event of breakdown.

Q: What if it is raining ?

A: We ride rain or shine. We will adjust our riding style and we may adjust the route but rain is just something we riders have to deal with. We will not ride if there is a possibility of icy conditions. In the rare event we must cancel a ride because of weather we will do our best to reschedule your tour.

Q: Can our group ride on our own?

A: No - We require that the group remain behind the lead rider at all times; this will ensure that the lead rider directs the speed and direction of the group. We will make sure that people don’t take a wrong turn which ultimately delays the days ride and affects the other riders on the tour. At times and at the discretion of the tour leader, people may be given an opportunity to do a section of the ride ahead of the lead rider.

Q: Can I book a “custom motorcycle tour” for just my friends or co-workers?

A: Yes, we can create a custom tour to meet your exact needs. We can create tours for “Women Only” or just a group of mates, team building tours for your co-workers or employees. We can also extend the tour length to as many days as you would like. POA

Q: What happens if someone has an accident or an emergency illness on the tour?

A: We understand that accidents can happen and that people can get sick on a tour. Your health and safety are our primary goals on all our tours. We will have a certified First Aid & CPR officer on the tour. We will handle any accident as the conditions warrant and get proper emergency assistance if needed. Your travel package also includes travel insurance for medical costs and emergencies. All tour guides carry first aid kits and are prepared to use them if necessary. We have had experience in dealing with riders that get ill during a tour. We try to make ourselves aware of any medical conditions you or your passenger may have when you fill out your application. If your medical conditions change prior to the tour please let us know so we can respond should changes in your health occur.

Q: What happens if I book a tour and the rental dealer will not allow me to ride?

A: Rental motorcycles are the property of the rental operator and they will determine if you are able to safely operate their motorcycle. Should you be unable to pass their riding assessment you will be refunded the amount of money you paid for the rental bike. I would also state that if you fail this assessment, you haven’t ridden a bike before and you probably shouldn’t be booking this as a tour option. TwoWheel make all necessary arrangements in renting motorcycles from reputable rental dealers; we do not own or rent any of our own motorcycles. To date this has not been an issue experienced. When renting a motorcycle, a $2000 deposit is held on a credit card. You need to make sure this is an available option on your card before we book. This is returned once the bike is returned at the end of the tour.
